Three scenarios of the coexistence between 10G PON and PON

The optical access network will be the basic network in the next few decades or even hundreds of years.

 

The network deployment must be fully taken the consideration of long-term need, then to design a reasonable network architecture which to support the smooth evolution to the future and protect the investment.

 

From the requirement of deployment, the coexistence between 10G PON and PON can be divided into three scenarios.

 

At the beginning of the 10G PON, EPON/GPON has existed. The 10G PON only to expand its capacity based on the existing network.

In the middle period of 10G construction, 10G PON has gradually become the mainstream. However, the 10G PON must be compatible with EPON/GPON backward when we consider the business development situation.

 

In the completely mature period of 10G PON, EPON/GPON is unable to meet the business requirements and will be completely replaced by 10G PON.
