Definition

CATV, namely Cable TV is also known as community antenna television. In addition to bringing television programs to those millions of people throughout the world who are connected to a community antenna, cable TV will likely become a popular way to interact with the World Wide Web and other new forms of multimedia information and entertainment services. CATV generally use coaxial cable to transmit TV programs, and actually the fibers bring a lot of benefits in data communication in CATV systems.

Technology of CATV

In Cable TV, channels are divided into a number of frequencies and modulated over a single cable enabling the cable operator to propagate and distribute many channels on a fiber optic and coaxial cable direct-to-home. CATV works by spreading TV channels, FM radio, Data services and Telephony over a single wire.
