Introduction

The Ethernet trunk cable is a core physical connectivity component in network infrastructure, designed for high-speed, high-capacity data exchange within the backbone layer, distribution layer, or data centers of large-scale networks. It is typically used to interconnect critical network devices such as core switches, routers, server clusters, and distribution layer switches, carrying aggregated high-speed data traffic from multiple access links. Compared to standard patch cables, trunk cables demand higher performance in terms of bandwidth, shielding, and reliability, and are engineered to ensure the stability, efficiency, and future scalability of the network backbone.

Product Highlights

● 100% Factory-terminated, Bundled and Tested, Minimize Potential Failure Points

● Meets or Exceeds ISO/IEC 11801-1, TIA-568.2-C Standards

● Black Mesh Tubing Keeps Cables Neat and Ensures Snag-free Installation

● Each Trunk Assembly Receives an Individual Identification Number for Fast Recognition

● Supports Cat6A, Cat7, and Cat8, delivering 10GbE, 25GbE, 40GbE, and even 100GbE transmission capabilities.

● Commonly features multi-layer shielding constructions like S/FTP or F/FTP to effectively mitigate Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Radio Frequency Interference (RFI)

● Utilizes premium Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC) conductors, high-density insulation materials, and rugged outer jackets.

● Designed to work with high-performance modular patch panels and connectors, supporting high-density cabling to save space.

● Supports high-power Power over Ethernet (PoE) standards like PoE++ (UPoE), capable of delivering both data and power to wireless access points and IoT equipment.

Principle

Ethernet trunk cables operate on the twisted-pair principle, where multiple pairs of insulated copper conductors are twisted together at specific rates to cancel out external EMI and crosstalk (NEXT, FEXT) between pairs. For high-speed standards (Cat6A and above), a shielded construction is typically employed, involving foil or braid shielding around individual pairs and/or the overall cable to further isolate external noise. Their transmission performance is defined by parameters such as frequency bandwidth, insertion loss, return loss, and crosstalk. By connecting backbone network equipment and utilizing the Ethernet protocol, trunk cables enable high-speed, full-duplex data frame switching between devices, forming the core pathway for network traffic.

Applications

● Enterprise Network Backbone: Interconnecting core and distribution switches between headquarters, floors, or departments to build the enterprise backbone.

● Data Center Cabling: Used for high-speed interconnects in data centers (e.g., EDA/HDM) - between rooms, racks, switches and servers/Top-of-Rack (ToR) switches.

● Campus & Park Area Networks: Connecting core networking equipment across multiple buildings to establish a high-speed campus backbone.

● Intelligent Building Systems: Carrying aggregated high-speed data traffic from integrated systems such as security, building automation, and multimedia.

● Industrial Network Backbone: In automated plants, connecting switches between the control center and various production floors, requiring high noise immunity.

● Service Provider Networks: Used for interconnections between critical equipment within telecom central offices or Points of Presence (POPs).
