Corning Optical FibersCorning 250μm Optical Fiber means the bare optical fiber with a soft plastic coating whose diameter is 250 microns. It consists of a central core which carries the light signal, using a cladding material which diameter is 125 microns. Fibermart supply single-mode and multimode bare fiber optic cables which are manufactured by Corning for high speed, VCSEL laser-based local area networks (LAN) and local access networks. The usual Corning fibers are like: SMF-28e+ Single-Mode Fiber (SMF) - SMF-28 Ultra, SMF-28 Contour, SMF-28 ULL (Ultra Low Loss); Multimode Fiber (MMF) - OM3 & OM4 (Laser-Optimized), OM5 (Wideband Multimode Fiber); Specialty Fibers - Corning ClearCurve, Corning Phoenix, Corning Vascade.

Introduction
Corning 250μm Bare Optical Fiber represents the fundamental, high-performance building block of modern optical networks. This product consists of the pristine glass optical fiber—with a standard 125μm cladding diameter—coated with a thin 250μm layer of protective acrylate. Supplied on spools without connectors, it provides the essential raw medium for creating custom-terminated cables, pigtails, and patches. Fibermart supplies a comprehensive range of Corning's industry-leading single-mode and multimode fibers, from standard SMF-28® and laser-optimized OM3/OM4 to advanced bend-insensitive ClearCurve® series, enabling network designers to stay ahead of escalating bandwidth, reach, and physical deployment demands.
Features
● CORNING Features a durable 250μm diameter acrylate coating that protects 125μm cladding during handling and installation while maintaining a small overall footprint for high-density applications. ● Includes premier grades like SMF-28® Ultra (standard single-mode), SMF-28® ULL (ultra-low loss for long haul), InfiniCor® (OM3/OM4 multimode), and the full ClearCurve® family of bend-insensitive fibers. ● Engineered for low attenuation, high bandwidth, and in the case of ClearCurve fibers, exceptional resistance to macro- and micro-bend-induced signal loss. ● Supplied as genuine Corning product, ensuring consistent geometry, coating quality, and optical properties batch after batch for reliable splicing and termination. ● As bare fiber, offers maximum flexibility for creating custom-length patch cords, pigtails, or being integrated into modules, harnesses, and specialty cables.
Principles
Corning bare fiber operates on the principle of total internal reflection to guide light. The core (e.g., 9μm for single-mode, 50μm for multimode) is surrounded by cladding glass with a lower refractive index, trapping light within the core. The thin 250μm acrylate coating is the primary layer that provides mechanical protection, stripability for splicing, and color-coding for identification, without the thicker buffers found on finished cables.
The portfolio addresses different network physics. Single-Mode fibers (like SMF-28®) use a small core to carry a single light mode over long distances with minimal dispersion. Multimode fibers (like InfiniCor® OM4) use a larger core to carry multiple light modes for high-bandwidth, short-reach applications. Bend-Insensitive fibers (like the ClearCurve® family) are engineered with a nano-structured cladding or core design that confines light more tightly, allowing it to turn tighter corners (as small as 5mm radius) without the significant signal loss that would occur in standard fiber. This makes them ideal for dense, space-constrained installations.
Applications
● Fusion Splicing for Custom Cable Assemblies: custom-length fiber optic pigtails, patch cords, and breakout harnesses in the lab or factory. ● Data Center & High-Density Campus Wiring: Deploying bend-insensitive ClearCurve fibers in tight trays, corners, and high-fiber-count panels. ● Fiber to the Home (FTTH) & Access Networks: Using bend-insensitive single-mode fibers (e.g., ClearCurve XB, ZBL) for rugged, compact drop cables and terminal installations. ● Long-Haul & Metropolitan Network Backbones: Ultra-low loss fibers (e.g., SMF-28® ULL, Vascade®) to extend repeater spacing and increase capacity in terrestrial and submarine networks. ● Harsh Environment & Specialty Sensing Networks: Utilizing the robust physical performance of specialty fibers in industrial, military, aerospace, and distributed sensing applications.
