Polarization Maintaining Patch Cable

Get Quality Polarization Maintaining Patch Cables from Fibermart for Varying PM Fiber Applications

Fibermart offers a range of Polarization Maintaining patch cables for interferometry, fiber lasers, quantum optics, and advanced telecommunications. These cables are constructed using high-quality optical fibers and jacketing materials. Their reinforced connectors provide additional protection against wear and tear, making them ideal for both laboratory and field applications. Our Polarization Maintaining patch cables are available with various connector types, such as FC/APC, FC/UPC, and LC, as well as custom lengths to suit diverse applications. These cables ensure stable signal transmission by preserving the polarization of light.

Introduction

Fibermart's Polarization Maintaining (PM) Patch Cables are precision-engineered optical links designed for applications where the integrity of a light signal's polarization state is paramount. Unlike standard single-mode cables, these specialized assemblies are constructed with PM fiber that rigorously preserves the linear polarization of light as it travels. Available with robust FC/APC, FC/UPC, and LC connectors and customizable in length, they deliver stable, high-fidelity signal transmission for the most demanding systems in research, telecommunications, and advanced sensing, forming the definitive interconnect solution where polarization control cannot be compromised.

Fibermart PM Fiber Patch Cable Slow Axis

Features

● PANDA PM780, PM1310, PM1550 fibers from Corning, Fujikura designed with internal stress rods to create high birefringence, maintaining stable linear polarization.

● Features connectors from SENKO, US Conec with precision rotational key alignment (e.g., FC key) to ensure the fiber's internal "slow axis" is correctly oriented.

● High Polarization Extinction Ratio PER (typically ≥ 23 dB), ensuring minimal cross-coupling between polarization axis and superior signal purity.

● Built with Precision Ceramic Connector ferrules and strain relief, coupled with durable jackets (like PVC or LSZH) in 0.9/2.0/3.0mm, for lab and field environments.

● Wide range of custom options, including various connector types and custom lengths to fit specific system layouts and spatial constraints.

100% Tested with individual Testing Report, CE, RoHS, FCC, ISO9001 Certificated for each unit to ensure High performance and Zero Failure in Lifetime Warranty.

Principles

A Polarization Maintaining Patch Cable operates on the principle of guided polarization within a highly birefringent optical fiber. The core is engineered with asymmetric internal stress regions (like the two stress rods in a PANDA fiber). This built-in asymmetry creates two distinct, stable polarization axes within the fiber: the "slow axis" and the "fast axis," which have different effective refractive indices.

When linearly polarized light is launched into the cable and aligned precisely with one of these axes (typically the slow axis), the fiber's birefringence actively works to preserve that polarization state over the cable's length. The light remains confined to that initial axis, resisting coupling into the orthogonal axis despite minor external perturbations like bends or temperature changes. The connector's key is critically aligned to this internal axis during manufacturing, ensuring the polarization orientation is maintained from the equipment port, through the cable, and into the receiving device. This prevents polarization mode dispersion and preserves the signal's state for interference, modulation, or quantum encoding.
