Fiber Adapter

Fiber optic adapter, Fiber Adapter is also called fiber optic coupler. It is used to provide a cable to cable fiber connection. People sometimes also name them to be mating sleeves and hybrid adaptors. Mating sleeves means this fiber optic adapter is used to connect the same type fiber optic connectors, while hybrid adaptors are the fiber optic cable adaptor types used to connect different kinds of fiber optic connectors. Fiber-Mart provide a complete line of Fiber adapter panels for sale that are used for fiber optic connection, Fiber Coupler like ST, SC, FC, LC, MTRJ, E2000, MPO and MU style fiber optic adapters for both multimode and single-mode fiber applications. We also can offer fiber adapter plates for ST, SC, MT-RJ or LC type connections. Buy fibre adapters at Fibermart!

Introduction

Fibermart Fiber Optic Adapter is a fundamental passive interconnect component engineered to provide a precise, low-loss junction between two fiber optic connectors. Also known as a fiber coupler or mating sleeve, it serves as the critical interface within patch panels, wall outlets, and equipment ports. Available in a comprehensive range of types including simplex, duplex, and quad configurations for SC, LC, FC, ST, MU, E2000, and MPO connectors, these adapters enable both like-to-like connections and hybrid interfacing between different connector families. Designed for superior optical and mechanical performance in both single-mode and multimode applications, they are the definitive solution for building flexible and reliable fiber optic infrastructure.

Different Fiber Adapters

Features

● Supports all major connector types including SC, LC, FC, ST, MU, E2000, and MTRJ, available in both single-mode and multimode.

● Functions as a standard mating sleeve to connect two identical connectors, and as a hybrid adapter to join two different connector types (e.g., SC to LC).

● Offered in simplex (single port), duplex (dual port), and quad configurations, as well as ganged adapter plates for high-density installations.

● Incorporates precision ceramic or phosphor bronze split sleeves within a durable housing, resulting in low insertion loss and high return loss.

● Built with robust metal or polymer housings and secure mounting options (snap-in, threaded, or screw-mount) to provide stable, reliable connections resistant to vibration and repeated mating cycles.

Principles

A fiber optic adapter operates on the principle of providing precise mechanical alignment for the ceramic ferrules of two mating fiber optic connectors. Its core component is an alignment sleeve, typically made of ceramic, phosphor bronze, or polymer. This sleeve has an inner diameter that matches the outer diameter of the connector ferrules (e.g., 2.5mm for SC/FC/ST, 1.25mm for LC).

When two connectors are inserted from opposite sides of the adapter, their ferrules slide into this common sleeve. The sleeve's tight tolerance forces the two ferrules—and consequently the optical fibers housed within them—into coaxial alignment. This brings the fiber cores into near-perfect physical contact, minimizing the air gap and allowing light to pass from one fiber to the other with minimal loss (insertion loss) and reflection (return loss). The adapter's external housing secures the connectors in place and protects the delicate alignment sleeve from dust and physical damage.
