Introduction

Fibermart SC (Subscriber Connector or Standard Connector) is a single-fiber, push-pull style fiber optic connector. Originally developed by NTT in Japan in the late 1980s, it became a major industry standard for datacom, telecom, and CATV systems due to its excellent performance, robust design, and relatively compact size. It is also commonly referred to as the "Square Connector" because of its distinctive rectangular housing shape.

Principle

Fibermart SC connector operates on a precise physical contact principle. The fiber is secured in the center of a ceramic ferrule, the end-face of which is polished to a specific finish (PC, UPC, or APC). When two SC connectors are inserted into an SC adapter, a split sleeve inside the adapter aligns and holds the two ferrules in exact position. The connector's square housing and internal latch mechanism engage and lock securely upon insertion, preventing accidental disconnection. To disconnect, the user simply pulls back on the connector body to release the latch.
