The advantages of the XENPAK module, XPAK transceiver and X2 fiber optic transceivers have a high integration and an easy circuit design.

According to the internal structure, the fiber optical module can be divided into two classes. One class includes the XENPAK Modules, XPAK transceivers and X2 fiber optic transceivers; another class includes 10 XFP modules.

These two classes of fiber optic transceiver represent two different design ideas which have their own advantages and disadvantages.
The advantages of the XENPAK module, XPAK transceiver and X2 fiber optic transceivers have a high integration and an easy circuit design. But these fiber optical modules are too big and their power consumption is large.

The 10 XFP module is smaller and cheaper than the first class. The 10G XFP Module is easy to realize the high-density application. But it has a higher requirement for circuit design.

Simply speaking, there are two big office buildings (A and B) in your company factory and they are far from each other. The transmission distance of the common cable only ups to 100 meters. Therefore, there is a problem that how to transfer the information data between these two buildings.

And the method is to pull a fiber optic cable from the building A to the building B. Then to connect a fiber optical module at two ends of this cable respectively. And the other end of the module connects a network wire respectively. The wire access the network equipment in the data room of building A and the fiber switch of building B, or other equipment.

And you distribute the network wires to each machine through the switch. By using this method with fiber optic modules, we realize the long-distance data communication.
