An OS2 singlemode patch cable operates on the principle of guiding a single light mode through an extremely narrow (9μm) core of ultra-pure glass. This small core size is the key differentiator from multimode fiber. It restricts the path of light, allowing only the fundamental mode to propagate directly down the center of the fiber.
