Introduction

 

The 100G QSFP28 (Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable 28) is a high-density, high-speed optical transceiver module that utilizes four-channel parallel transmission technology, with each channel supporting data rates up to 25 Gbps, for an aggregate bandwidth of 100 Gbps. Designed for data centers, high-performance computing, and telecommunications networks, it meets the growing demand for high-bandwidth, low-power consumption connectivity.

Principle

 

The 100G QSFP28 transceiver module enables high-speed data transmission through electrical-to-optical and optical-to-electrical conversion. On the transmitter side, it receives four independent 25 Gbps electrical signals from the network equipment. An internal laser driver and laser array then convert each electrical signal into an optical signal at a specific wavelength. For multimode fiber (SR4), the four optical signals are transmitted in parallel through separate fibers within an MPO connector. For single-mode fiber (LR4), CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology is used to combine the four optical signals at different wavelengths onto a single fiber. On the receiver side, the optical signals are converted back into electrical signals by a photodetector array, then undergo clock recovery and signal reshaping before being output to the host device. The entire process is managed by an integrated controller and supports real-time digital diagnostic monitoring to ensure signal integrity and link stability.
